HH depends who you ask, one of my favorite pet theories to explain this phenomenon and their refusal to believe in the Petek even though they readily believe in bigger miracles is that the Petek is michayev them. Most people even the biggest lamdunim and oavday Hashem are past despair, they have given up on attaining real real holiness, nevertheless they are very disciplined and driven to still do their utmost, to strive to better themselves, but all within their little tiny conception. Comes along the Petek and says, wake up! You can have prophecy! You can make it all the way, be completely holy etc. etc.. And this is very very scary, it unhinges everything firm that they recognize and stand on, and it means that they have to start completely anew and give it all they got - very taxing thought, frightening to consider. So they favor denial. Keeps them where they feel safe.
Based on this theory, I think a major part of hafatza and even the debating isn't and should not be to just prove that Nanach is the real emess. Because that it obvious and that it isn't proof which is preventing people from admitting it, the main hafatza is to give people a taste of the exhilaration, and collaboration, seeing how well it works for you and how it is feasible for them to take it on.
Nu, what do you say to my theory?
