Letter 103

Baruch Hashem. 10 Nissan [5]726 (Thu – 31 March, 1966).

In honor of the president of Israel, my heart and flesh, Mr. S. Z. Shazar – who’s splendor and praise are going and growing, and they are saying, “There is no one so understanding and wise as him”; who focused his heart to come to the true hidden treasure, and all his desire and passion is to imbue the truth in the whole world.

[1]The Son of the King was a wise person and loved wisdom very much, and there were big sages by him. And whoever would come to him with some matter of wisdom, he would be held in very great esteem by him, and he would accord them honor and wealth for the sake of the wisdom – to each one in accordance with his desire. One who wanted money, he would give him money; and he who wanted honor, he would give him honor – everything for the sake of the wisdom. And since wisdom was held by him in such esteem, everyone took themselves to the wisdom and the entire country engaged in wisdoms. For this one wanted money – so that he’ll receive money through this, and this one wanted prominence and honor. And because they all engaged solely in wisdoms, therefore, there in that country they forgot the war tactics. For they were all engaging in wisdoms until all the countrymen were big sages, until the smallest of that country was in another country a bigger sage than them all. And the wise ones from that country were extremely far-off, great sages; and there was great depth and subtlety in that philosophy of the sages. And because of the philosophies, the sages of that country became heretics and they drew the aforementioned Son of the King also to their opinions, and he became a heretic as well. And the Son of the King – because there was good in him, for he was born with good, and he possessed good and upright traits – would at times remember where he is in the world and what he’s doing etc. and he would moan and sigh over this, over this that he fell to such perplexities and he had become so lost; and he would sigh heavily. But immediately when he would begin to use his intellect, the aforementioned philosophies of heresy once again strengthened by him. And so it happened a number of times that he would recall where he is in the world etc., and he would groan and sigh; and immediately when he would make use with the intellect, the aforementioned apostasies once again became strong by him!

There are people who very much engage only in wisdoms, and for the most part their intentions with this are only for the nonsense of this world – that is, for the sake of stature and honor, or money and so on and so forth. And since they are only occupied with philosophies, they thereby completely forget the strategies of war – that is, how to fight the great war that a person must wage in this world, which is the war of [/against] the evil inclination; and through the wisdoms they sometimes come to total apostasy.

ב"ה י' ניסן תשכ"ו
לכבוד נשיא ישראל לבי ובשרי מר ש.ז.שזר, אשר תפארתו ושבחו הולך וגדול ואומרים אין נבון וחכם כמוהו אשר שם את לבו לבוא למטמון האמת, וכל תאותו ותשוקתו להכניס האמת בכל העולם.

הבן מלך היה חכם והיה אוהב חכמה מאד, והיו אצלו חכמים גדולים. וכל מי שהיה בא אצלו עם איזה דבר חכמה, היה אצלו בחשיבות גדול מאד, והיה נותן להם כבוד ועשירות בשביל החכמה, לכל אחד כפי רצונו. מי שהיה רוצה ממון היה נותן לו ממון, ומי שהיה רוצה כבוד היה נותן לו כבוד, הכל בשביל החכמה. ומחמת שהיה חשוב אצלו החכמה כל כך, היו כולם לוקחים עצמם אל החכמה, ועסקו כל המדינה בחכמות, כי זה היה רוצה ממון כדי שיקבל ממון על ידי זה, וזה היה רוצה חשיבות וכבוד. ומחמת שכולם עסקו רק בחכמות, על כן שכחו שם, באותה המדינה, טכסיסי מלחמה כי היו כולם עוסקים בחכמות עד שהיו כל בני המדינה חכמים גדולים עד שהקטן שבאותה המדינה היה במדינה אחרת חכם גדול מכולם. והחכמים שבאותה מדינה היו חכמים מופלגים גדולים מאד, והיה עמקות ודקות גדול באותה החכמה של החכמים, ומחמת החכמות נתפקרו החכמים של אותה המדינה, ומשכו גם את הבן מלך הנ"ל לדעתם ונתפקר גם כן. והבן מלך מחמת שהיה בו טוב כי נולד עם טוב והיה לו מדות טובות וישרות, היה נזכר לפעמים היכן הוא בעולם ומה הוא עושה וכו', והיה גונח ומתאנח על זה, על שנפל למבוכות כאלו ונתעה כל כך, והיה מתאנח מאד. אבל תיכף כשהיה מתחיל להשתמש עם השכל, חזר ונתחזק אצלו החכמות של אפיקורסות הנ"ל. וכן היה כמה פעמים שהיה נזכר היכן הוא בעולם וכו' והיה גונח ומתאנח ותיכף כשהתחיל להשתמש עם השכל, חזר ונתחזק אצלו האפיקורסות הנ"ל!

יש בני אדם שמרבים לעסוק רק בחכמות, ועל פי רוב רוב כוונתם בזה רק בשביל הבלי עולם הזה, דהיינו בשביל חשיבות וכבוד או ממון וכיוצא בזה ומחמת שעוסקין רק בחכמות ע"יז שוכחים טכסיסי המלחמה לגמרי היינו איך ללחום המלחמה הגדולה שצריך האדם ללחום בעולם הזה. שהוא מלחמת היצר הרע, ולפעמים באים לאפיקורסות גמור ע"י החכמות.
