 Letter 98

Baruch Hashem. 22^nd of Elul [5]725 (Sunday – Sep. 19, 1965).

In honor of the president of Israel, the apple of my eye and heart, Mr. S. Z. Shazar – who’s heart has moved him to attach himself in the True Sage who shields over the Jewish people for the generations of the world – in order to elevate them from the depths of the abyss; and He builds wondrous buildings in order to bring in them all the rejected and lost ones whom are rolling around in the torrents of malicious waters, and He imbues in them Daas [realization of knowledge or perspicacity] to recognize the Creator, blessed He. [May you have] a good year blessed with good and long life, healthy and blissful.

The main honor and greatness of the kingdom is specifically through humbleness. And however much more humility the king possesses, so does his kingdom spread more. For so is the way of the kingdom each time, that one needs to precede his honor and greatness with humility. In the place of your greatness – there I find your humbleness to come and speak before you that which God will place in my heart:

I have broken into fragments of fragments and my heart has flipped over inside of me, and it has become destroyed and ruined until the foundation, and I am moaning and crying boiling tears without abatement over the great loss which I have lost with the passing away of my wife, the righteous one, peace upon her. I don’t have words to relate in her praise or to describe the magnitude of the nobleness of her holy soul. I console myself with her righteousness and good deeds which she merited to do all the days of her life with self /soul]-sacrifice, and she sanctified the Name of God and the Name of the True Tzaddik publicly amidst poverty, duress, tragedies, and many bitter hardships – [that which is] immeasurable [and] the likes of which there is no comparison, as is known to you a little from this:

From the depth of [my] heart I bless you [plural], and your brother and his beloved and pleasant family with a blessing of ‘Blessed is he who comes’ in that he has merited to come and get dusty in the dust of the holy ground, in the land of our fathers, the land of our serenity and consolation, the land of our lifeforce and hope; the place of the faith and the holy wisdom – to get wiser in order to know the God. May he bear a blessing from God, and He should make him successful in all that he turns to – for the length of good days and years.

God – out of the much-hidden matters [and] secrets [/mysteries] of His ways and customs that are sealed and concealed from all thoughts and from any search – has rained on the earth torrential rain and a gush of mighty waters of atheisms and false beliefs in the final end of these days. And out of His great compassion He preceded a healing and rescuing, and He sent us a man after His own heart who has found favor in his eyes, and He called His name ‘Nachman’ – “saying: This one will ease [/relieve] us of our deeds and of the anguish [toil] of our hands” (Genesis 5:29), and He commanded Him to build an Ark of the Truth and Faith, so that whoever wants to be rescued should come, yes come in its chambers and be enclosed [within] its doors, and he should hide in the shadow of its awesome wisdom. For who can exalt, and who can relate the forcefulness [and] exaltedness of His [acts of] strength, in that He has astonishingly [performed] with the wonders of His wonders to prepare and summon nourishment and lifeforce for all the souls of the Jewish people for all generation[s] so that they should have pleasure and delight in the splendor, glory, and blissfulness of His awesome Teachings and Stories which are taken from the Field of Wisdom, the highest of heights which was never yet revealed; which are enduring, faithful, and of benefit forever for eternity.

Your faithful servant who serves you with all [his] heart and soul and stands and prays constantly from God that He should have mercy on His nation and He should speedily heal and make you healthy in all the 248 limbs and 365 tendons, and He should lengthen your days and years with good and pleasantness in the merit of the Tzaddik Na. Nach. Nachma. Nachman. MayUman.

לכבוד נשיא ישראל, בת עיני וליבי, מר ש.ז.שזר, אשר נשאו ליבו לדבק עצמו בהחכם האמת המגן על ישראל לדורות עולם, להעלותם מעמקי תהום, ובונה בנינים נפלאים להכניס בהם כל הנדחים והאבודים המתגוללים בתוך שטף מים הזדונים, ומכניס בהם דעת להכיר את הבורא יתברך. שנה טובה ומבורכה בחיים טובים ארוכים, בריאים ונעימים.

עיקר כבוד וגדולת המלכות הוא על ידי ענוה דיקא. וכל מה שיש להמלך ענוה ביותר מתפשט מלכותו ביותר. כי כן דרך המלכות בכל פעם, שצריך שיקדים ענוה לכבודו וגדולתו. במקום גדולתך שם אני מוצא ענותנותך לבוא ולדבר לפניך את אשר ישים ה' בליבי.

נשברתי לשברי שברים ונהפך ליבי בקירבי ונחרב ונהרס עד היסוד ואני נאנח ובוכה בדמעות רותחות בלי הפוגות על האבדה הגדולה שאבדתי עם פטירת אשתי הצדקת עליה השלום. אין לי מילים לספר בשבחה ולתאר גודל אצילות נשמתה הקדושה. אני מנחם את עצמי בצדקתה ומעשיה הטובים שזכתה כל ימי חייה לעשות במסירת נפש וקידשה שם ה' ושם הצדיק האמת ברבים מתוך עניות ודחקות וצרות ותלאות רבות ומרות, בלי שיעור שאין דוגמתם בעולם, כמו שידוע לך קצת מזה.

מעומק הלב אברך אתכם ואת אחיך ובנו ומשפחתו הנאהבים והנעימים ברכת ברוך הבא אשר זכה לבוא ולהתאבק בעפר אדמת קודש בארץ אבותינו ארץ מנוחתנו ונחמתנו ארץ חיותנו ותקותנו. מקום האמונה והחכמה דקדושה להתחכם לדעת את ה' ישא ברכה מאת ה' ויצליחו בכל אשר יפנה לאורך ימים ושנים טובים.

ה' ברוב מצפוני סתרי דרכיו והנהגותיו הסתומים ונעלמים מכל רעיון ומכל חקר, המטיר על הארץ גשם שוטף וזרם מים כבירים של כפירות ואמונות כזביות באחרית הימים האלה, וברוב חמלתו הקדים רפואה והצלה, ושלח לנו איש כלבבו אשר מצא חן בעיניו ויקרא שמו נחמן, לאמור זה ינחמנו ממעשנו ומעצבון ידינו, וצוה לו לבנות תיבת האמת והאמונה, אשר כל  מי שרוצה להנצל בוא יבוא בחדריו ויסגר בדלתותיו ויחבא בצל חכמתו הנוראה. כי מי יהלל ומי ימלל עוצם נשגבות גבורותיו אשר הפליא בפלאות נפלאותיו להכין ולהזמין מזון וחיות לכל נפשות ישראל לכל דור, שיתענגו ויתעדנו בהדר תפארת נעימת תורותיו ומעשיותיו הנוראים הנלקחים משדה החכמה עלאה דעלאה אשר לא נתגלה עדיין מעולם, הקיימים ונאמנים ומועילים לעד ולנצח.

עבדך הנאמן המשרתך בכל לב ונפש, ועומד ומתפלל תמיד מאת ה' שירחם על עמו וירפא ויבריא אותך מהרה בכל רמ"ח איברים ושס"ה גידים, ויאריך ימיך ושנותך בטוב ובנעימים, בזכות הצדיק נ.נח.נחמ.נחמן.מאומן.
