“The likeness of his father's image he saw”

“The likeness of his father’s image he saw” [Sotah 36b; Midrash Tanchuma, Vayeishev].

This is a very hidden matter—how the image becomes revealed. And he himself does not know how it appears, for certainly Jacob did not know. And the greatness of the test lies in this: even though he saw the image of his father’s likeness, he still faced the full force of the trial.
