199 - Know That There is Sweetening to be Saved from Punishment of Widower

Know that there is a sweetening to be saved from the punishment of becoming a widower – that one's wife not die, G-d forbid. This is the sweetness in the Torah; through it, one is saved from this punishment. The letters ALMN (-widower) are the initials of Mah Nimlezu Lechiki Amratcha (Psalms 119:103: "How sweet are Your words to my palate"). By feeling sweetness in the Torah, one is saved from this punishment. The verse concludes: "than honey to my mouth" – this sweetness sweetens the judgment of a wife's death, G-d forbid, for "honey" numerically equals "woman" (as in the writings).
