Letter 33 (new: 35)

BH, The first day of Chol HaMoed (the intermediate days of the festival), 16th of Nissan, 5720 (Wednesday, April 13, 1960), Tel-Aviv

My brother, my precious one, and dear to me as my soul, the pleasant Mr. Z. Shazar,, Shalom, and good and long life.

Just now I have received his letter with the attached checks amounting to one hundred Israeli Liras (t.n. this is a very substantial sum in terms of purchasing power of that era), and it was a great joy for me. Proclamations of commendation (tishuas chen) for his honor. And in particular, that which he hastened himself to deliver it by way of express; may God repay him for his actions, and save him, so that he may continue with the likes of such – to snatch good from within the hell of this world, which is full of bitterness and affliction; for only this remains for the person, and his reward will not be deprived, and his righteousness will stand forever.

My eyes are fixed to God, that it should sprout from this the good fruit which we have been waiting for – to enliven us – which is the pleasantness, beloved, mellifluous, and sweetness of the sparking/sparkling of His blessed G-dliness, which the holy and awesome Rabbeinu (our Rabbi) drew (down) into the world, also in this orphaned generation, in our lowly situation like this. And he made it known to us that he is the true leader, the only one, and the “Master of the House” (bal habaye’is) of the world – until the end (Likutay Halachos, Birchas Harayach 4:44). Fortunate is the one who merits to draw close to him, and to go in his ways, in truth. ‘Blessed is our God, who created us for His glory, and separated us from those who go astray etc. (prayer of Oova Litzion).’

ב"ה א' דחוהמ"פ ט"ז ניסן תש"ח. 13.4.60 תל אביב.

אחי יקירי וחביבי כנפשי, מר ז.שזר הנעים, שלום וחיים טובים וארוכים.

מכתבו קיבלתי זה עתה בצרוף הצ'קים על סך מאה ל"י והיה לי לשמחה רבה. תשואות חן לכבודו. ובפרט מה שזרז עצמו לשלוח על ידי אכספרס ישלם ה' פעלו, ויושיעו, שיוסיף עוד כהנה וכהנה לחטוף טוב מתוך הגיהנום של זה העולם, המלא מרירות ומכאובות, כי רק זה נשאר להאדם, ושכרו לא יקופח, וצדקתו תעמוד לעד. עיני תלויות אל ה', שיהיה נצמח מזה הפרות הטובים שאנו מחכים להם, להחיותנו, שהם נעימת ידידת ערבת מתיקת התנוצצות אלקותו יתברך, שהמשיך רבנו הקדוש והנורא בעולם גם בדור היתום הזה, בשפל מצבנו כזה. והודיע לנו שהוא המנהיג האמת היחידי והבעל הבית של העולם עד הסוף, אשרי הזוכה להתקרב אליו ולילך בדרכיו באמת! ברוך אלוקינו, שבראנו לכבודו והבדילנו מן התועים וכו'.

אוהבו הנאמן באמת, המחכה ומתגעגע בכלות הנפש לראותו בחיים ושלום ושמחה, דורש שלומו וטובתו ושלום ביתו באהבה עזה, בברכת חג כשר ושמח.
