WHY DO WE READ "MEGILLAS RUS" ON SHAVUOS?

There are several answers given to this question, and now I'd like to add my own. Of course, it would be tempting to try and explain this along the feminist lines, but we'll save that for another time and, instead, speak about something entirely different.

Shavuos comes after the forty-nine days of  the Omer Counting, and it is brought in the holy books that on this day we merit to reach the Fiftieth Gate of Kedushah, which correspond to Keser - the highest Sefirah. So, in order to balance this, we read "Megillas Rus". It reminds us that, still, we have to keep our feet firmly on the ground and be ready to express our acceptance of the Torah and devotion to it in the most mundane of actions, like gathering leftover stalks in the field.

Rus corresponds to Malchus, the lowest Sefirah. Reading "Megillas Rus" on Shavuos teaches us that Hashem wants us to crown Him in this lowly word, by fulfilling the mitzvos and working on our character traits. Of course, we'll strive for Keser but also remember our task down here in Malchus.
