In between the aliyos of the Torah reading -- the shoresh and root of half time and inter-inning entertainment

There is a holy custom amongst the Nanach, that in between the aliyos (people called up to partake personally in the communal reading of the Torah scroll) there is wild singing and dancing. So recently I realized that this must be the shoresh -  root of all the entertainment that goes on between innings and at halftime....
