An onen is a relative of someone who has passed away and awaits burial. An onen is exempt from mitzvos and cannot learn Torah, according to many opinions he cannot even recite Psalms.
Yesterday paying a consolation visit to our friend Zohar Eliyahu Chaim, he told me what he did at that trying time - he recited Shaimos Hatzadikim - the names of the tzadikim. Amazing idea (even some rabbis were impressed).
