Likutay Moharan - Torah-teaching 138

Likutay Moharan 138 – “To You My Heart Said, Seek My Face”
138 – To You My Heart Said, “Seek My Face”
To You my heart said, “Seek My face.” (Psalms 27:8)

Rashi explains that this refers to the heart directing a person toward Your mission—because the heart houses the principal divinity. As written, “Rock of my heart” (Psalms 73:26): the heart is the stable divine center, as detailed earlier in section 49. One who is “pure of heart” (Psalms 24:4), and whose heart is described, “and my heart is hollow within me” (Psalms 109:22)—that is, open and receptive—can know future revelations through what the heart “says” to him. That internal speech is literally God’s word. Thus: “To You my heart said, ‘Seek My face.’” means that the heart is speaking on behalf of God, conveying His words. And one who is understanding hearkens and acts accordingly.

Explanation: This teaching interprets the verse as the heart functioning as a divine messenger (“Your mission”), linked to purity (“pure of heart”). A “hollow heart”—empty of ego and receptive—receives prophetic insight and inner direction. The “rock of my heart” signifies enduring divine foundation, enabling the heart to articulate God’s words. The teaching encourages soul-searching and spiritual seeking: “Seek My face,” meaning pursue divine presence and hidden truth through the heart's revelation.
