I thought Reb Nachman Tulchiner was R Natan's boy

HH both. According to the rabbis of Breslov RNT was the greater disciple, but according to what is obvious and blatant and according to Saba Yisroel, RMB was the greater.

HH originally everyone understood that RMB was by far the greatest. Just, R. Avrohom son of RNT, who Saba proclaimed was an Eesh Emes, wrote that a few years after his father's passing he decided that his father had been greater, and he presents a very weak argument trying to prove it. May HY forgive him for all the distortion that resulted from this.

Thus you will notice e.g. Saba never spoke of making prayers of the Torahs, even though Rabbainu himself said this is supreme, probably to combat the other sides fault of favouring lamdunus over tzidkus against the very nature of Rabbainu.

HH at the beginning, because it was still hard for him. Compare that to RMB brought up as a child prodigy proficient in all the Torah...
