Pidyon Nefesh - Redemption of the Soul by means of charity for spreading Na NaCh NaChMa NaChMaN MAyUMaN

Pidyon Nefesh Prayer

Pidyon Nefesh Prayer

Lishaim Yichud Kudsha Brich Hoo Ooshcheentay - For the sake of uniting the Holy One Blessed He and His Shechina (Divine Presence),

I am hereby binding myself in this Pid'yon Nefesh to all the true righteous ones in our generation and to all the true righteous ones who are deceased, the holy ones that are buried in the ground, and specifically to our rabbi who is holy and righteous, a foundation of the world, a flowing stream, a source of wisdom, our Rabbi, Nachman the son of Faiga, son of Simcha, NA NACH NACHMA NACHMAN MEUMAN, and to all the true tzadikim dwellers of the dust, the holy ones whom are in the earth, may their merit protect us and over all of Yisroel, Amen!

Take some Tzedakah money (designated for the dissemination of Na Nach Nachma Nachman MeUman). Hold it with two hands, and say the following, inserting the full name where indicated.

Mu’oas, Vi’ais ha’yikoom ashehr bi’raglayhem.
[Money, ‘and the possessions by (/that keep them on) their feet’, Deut. 11:6]

Tzedek yikru’aihoo li’ragloa
[‘righteousness He called to (where) his (Avraham’s) feet (went)’, Isa. 41:2]

Tzedek malchoosuh kadeesha
[‘righteousness is the kingdom of holiness’, Tikunay Zohar 17b]

Deenuh dimalchoosuh deenuh
['the law of the kingdom is the law.' Gitin 10b]

Shoaresh hadeeneem beenuh
[‘The root of judgments is in Binah (understanding)’, Kisvay Arizal]

Annee beenuh lee givooruh
['I am Binah, strength is mine.' Proverbs 8:14]

Ain ha’deen nimtak elluh bishorshoa
[‘Judgment can only be sweetened at its root’. Zohar 3:141]

Shloashuh yudaye’im bibeenuh
[Three 'hands' in Binah:]

Yud hagidoaluh, yud hachazukuh, yud hurumuh
[the great hand (Chessed/kindness), the strong hand (Gevurah/strength), the exalted hand (Tiferes/Beauty).]

Shuloash pi’umim yud gematria shaim shel mem bais
[Three times 'hand' is gematria the Name of 42 (letters).]

Mem bais shebi’yitzeeruh: Shaim shel Unuh Bikoa’ach
[The 42 that is in (the world of) Yetzirah, the Name of Ana BiKoach.]

Mem bais shebibreyuh: Shnay pi’umim Ek’yeh

Yihee rutzoan meelifunnechuh
[May there be will from before You,]

She’yoomtikoo hadeeneem vihagivooroas hakushoas
[that all harsh judgments and gevooroas (severities) be sweetened]

may’al (person's name, son/daughter of – mother’s name)
[from upon (so-and-so - son/daughter of <mother’s name>),]

Ahl yiday pelleh el’yoan (Pettek El’yon)
[By means of the Supreme Wonder,]

Vi’rachameem gimooreem oopishooteem
[and absolute and simple mercy]

Sheh’ain boa taroavess deen klahl, umain
[which doesn’t have in it any mixture of judgment whatsoever. Amen.]

Pid’yon is a sweetening of judgments, and it saves from all hardships, because the main healing is through pid’yon specifically, because (Ex. 21:19): ‘virapoa yirapay (and he shall surely heal him)’ (with the two words) have the numerical value of ‘pidyon nefesh (soul)’. Likutay Moharan, volume 2, Torah-teaching 3

Additional Prayer (translated by Eliyahu Levine):

May it find favour before You that all the harsh decrees and severities be sweetened from upon {upon so-and-so the son of so-and-so} by the Supreme Wonder (Pele Elion) who is great loving kindness, complete and simple mercy with no admixture of severity at all. King, Redeemer and Helper; rescuer and savior, and sustainer and answerer and who is merciful at all times of distress and suffering; have compassion on the sick person {upon so-and-so the son of so-and-so}. Redeem him speedily from all his distress, from all kinds of illnesses and affliction and aches and pains. Sweeten and nullify all the harsh decrees from upon him in the merit of the money for her redemption. Have mercy upon us and consider the money that is given me as if the money had reached the hands of the holy tzaddikim who know how to do the redemption and thus to sweeten and cancel all the harsh decrees by taking into their hands the money in which the severe decrees have a hold. Therefore I give over my hands and all the intentions of my heart and mind to those tzaddikim. May my actions be considered as their actions, my hands as their hands and my mouth as their mouth. And let their intentions have our good in mind so as to redeem us properly through this money which came into my hands; may they sweeten and nullify all the harsh decrees from upon {upon so-and-so the son of so-and-so} in their heavenly source, in the supernal Binah. And may the harsh decrees from This World of Asiyah be sweetened by the three hands (right, left and both clasped together) in the world of Yetzirah which add up to fortytwo (three hands multiplied by forteen joints on each hand) which correspond to the initial letters in the prayer of Rebbe Nachunia ben Hakana, 'Anna Bekoach':

Anna Bekoach Prayer:

Anna bekoa'ach, gedoolas yemeencha tateer tzeroora
We beg You, with the strength of the greatness of Your right hand untie the bundle (of our sins).

Kabbel reenass amcha, sagvainoo taharainoo noara
Accept the song of Your People; strengthen us, purify us o Awesome One.

Nuh Geebor dorshai yichoodcha kivavas shumraim
Please Strong One, those who search for Your Oneness, like the pupil of an eye, guard them.

Burchaim taharaim, rachamaim tzidkuscha tamid gumlaim
Bless them, purify them, show them mercy, may Your righteousness always reward them.

Chasin, Kadoash biroav toovcha na'hel adassecha
Powerful Holy One with Your abundant goodness, guide Your congregation.

Yucheed Gayeh, Li'amcha pinai zoachrai kidushasecha
Unique One, Exalted One, to Your People turn, to those who proclaim Your holiness.

Shavasainoo, kabbail ooshma tza'akasainoo yoadaya taalopmoas
Accept our screams and hear our cries knower of mysteries.

Burooch Shaim kivoad malchoosoa li'oalum vuh'edd
Blessed is the Name of His glorious kingdom for ever and ever.

And in the world of Beriyah may all the harsh decrees be sweetened through the three hands which allude to the two Names of God. (Ehyeh, 21 YHV 21) that add up to forty-two. And in Atzilut they will be sweetened by the Name YHVH, in its simple four-letter form, its expanded form and its expanded expansion, which add up to fortytwo. Please, have mercy Merciful One on this sick person Arouse all the three hands in the Supernal Binah in all the Three worlds, Atzilut, Beriyah and Yetzirah. These three hands are called 'the great hand, 'the strong hand' and 'the high hand' and through this sweeten and nullify all the harsh decrees in This World of Asiyah from upon this sick person and from all the Jewish People and redeem this person quickly from all the troubles and all the harsh judgments that were decreed upon him even if it is after the decree has been sealed and send him a full cure speedily from Heaven, a spiritual cure and a physical cure, together with all sick ones of the Jewish People; and show me and teach me at all times when someone brings me money for a redemption, that I merit to know exactly how much money this person needs to give for his redemption, according to the harsh decrees that have a hold on him. Also have mercy on the person who brings the money so that he will not be miserly but rather he will give enough so that all the harsh decrees will leave him and reach and to rise to the three holy and supernal hands and let the decrees be sweetened in their heavenly source in Supernal Bina. For it is clear and known for You that I do not know how to behave in this matter. The One full of Mercy, have compassion on this poor generation for which there is no one who can stand up for us. Have mercy on all the People of Israel, the Jewish People and on this sick person and sweeten and nullify all the harsh decrees from upon him and from upon all the Jewish People. Cure him speedily. Bring him a full recovery. Return him to his former strength and enliven him in the near future and arouse his heart to really return to You. Be full of mercy towards him for You are the Master of compassion. Redeem the Jewish People, Israel from all its troubles for we have no-one to rely on other than Our Father in Heaven, as it says: "Israel will hope to the Lord for loving kindness is with the Lord and much redemption and He will redeem the Jewish People from all its iniquities". Amen. So may it be Your will.

Real Kindness

HH

The Baal Shem Tov made it known that there is nothing greater than doing even a little favor for someone, and when Rabbainu once spoke about the greatness of the mitzva of hospitality, and his daughter asked him how it was possible to fulfill it, he answered, “What do you think? There’s a guest! A little more tablecloth… another piece of challa…” (Siach Sarfay Kodesh 2:97, and see Bi’air Mayim Chaim, Va’yairu 18:8 cited there). However, don’t think for a moment that this was the entire enterprise of our forefather Abraham and the other holy tzadikim. Rabbainu revealed in Likutay Moharan (Torah-teaching 31) that all charity and kindness is deficient, and is only complete with the essential foundation of faith which is the underlying main factor in the importance of charity. And in Torah-teaching 53 Rabbainu revealed that the reason why the holy tzadikim were so busy running after people to return them to the faith, was to complete and perfect their da’as (holy realization of knowledge), see there. So although it is in fact true that Abraham was very busy doting on his guests and doing his utmost to pamper them, that was a very superficial aspect of what he was really doing. The Zohar revealed that every guest that came his way, immediately he began to pray for them and set out to purify them and rectify them. As soon as they walked into Abrahams property, if they were impure, the ground would split apart from beneath them and they would fall directly into a mikva, and Abraham would commence praying and working to rectify them. This is the real kindness and charity, this is the way of the holy faith.

Quantity verses Quality

HH

Quantity verses Quality

In the Torah, almost always quality is more important than quantity, as we find the rule, better a little with kavana (intention) than a lot without kavana (and many other manifestations of this, e.g. on Chanuka we are thanking Hashem for giving victory to the quality over the quantity. However, Rabbainu many times promoted quantity over quality (e.g. he said that he is jealous of the simple Jews who recite a lot of Psalms and prayers). See Likutay Nanach (380:6) that this fits into the scheme of the tikun (rectification) of the saifu (end) revealed by the Ramchal.

When the quality is just quantity, that is, when the achievement is great only because of its amount, almost certainly that amount is best achieved in quantity. This is what we find by the mitzva of charity. In Shivchay Huran – The Praises of Rabbi Nachman, article 13:

And in the beginning, in his childhood, he was accustomed to taking some large coins and he would change them for small ones, and he would enter the synagogue surreptitiously through the window and so forth and he took with him the book "Shaaray (gates of) Tzion (Zion)," and he would say the lishaim (for the sake of) yichud (unification) for doing a mitzva[1], and he took one small coin and threw it into the "matan (given) bisaiser (in secrecy) (i.e. a charity box designated as such)." And afterwards he made himself as if he was abstracted from it, and afterwards he returned and said the aforementioned lishaim yeechud and returned and threw one penny into the "matan bisaiser." And so he returned and did many times until he threw all the pennies into the "matan bisaiser," and upon every single penny he said the aforementioned lishaim yeechud. And his intention was in order to do many mitzvos[2], because his devotion was with absolute simplicity without any smarts ("chuchmos") whatsoever.

The main intention of this post was to include the final part of the footnote which I deemed unworthy of including in the soon to be published book.

Na Nach Nachma Nachman MeUman!

[1] A declaration stating one's intent in doing the deed is for the sake Heaven to unify the Divine Names with proper fulfillment of the deed with love and fear and in the name of all of Israel.
Today already we know from Rabbainu to include in this declaration that we are binding ourselves to the holy tzadikim and specifically Rabbainu Na Nach Nachma Nachman MeUman.
[2] It is interesting to note that the Rambam in his commentary to the Mishna in Ethics of Our Fathers (3:15) that all is in accord to the deed/s, asserts that a single act of donating a thousand gold coins does not have the same merit were he to give a thousand donations of one gold coin, because each act of giving has merit of itself (see there, as this is beyond the scope of this note), and this in fact is exactly what Rabbainu acted upon in his early childhood.
In almost complete contradistinction, it is told (Derech Tzadikim quoted in Mi-eeras Ainayim in back of Tzavus HaRivash, page 67) that Rabbi Pinchus Kuretzer o.b.m. said, "This elder (the holy Rabbi Yakov Yosef of Polnoa) printed a thousand books, and took for them 1000 adumim, why did he need to do this, he could have printed one book, and I by myself would have given him 1000 adumim."

The Praises of Rabbi Nachman 11-13

HH
Shivchay Huran
11-13
11. And some times he would be speaking before Hashem Yisburach words of beseeching and supplication from his heart and it occurred to him while he was speaking nice arguments and fitting and articulate prayers, and they were good in his eyes and he would write them to have by him to remember, in order that he could also pray them frequently afterwards. And so he was accustomed in this matter to speak between himself and his Creator very very copiously, and all the prayers were that he should merit to draw close to Hashem Yisburach, and he had great arguments to Hashem Yisburach on this.
12. ‎And even still it seemed to him always that he was not being looked at at all and he was not being heard at all, just on the contrary, it seemed to him that he was being alienated from His service blessed He with all types of alienation as if he was not desired at all whatsoever. Because he would see the changing and passing of many many days and years and he was still distant from a Hashem Yisburach, and still had not merited to be drawn any closer, therefore it seemed in his eyes that his words were not being heard at all and absolutely no attention was being given to him, just on the contrary, he was being alienated with all types of alienation from His service blessed He. But even still he would strengthen himself tremendously and would not leave his place. And there were times that he was disheartened because he saw that he prays, pleads, and implores so much that he should be drawn close to the service of Hashem Yisburach but was not looked upon at all, and because of this he fell sometimes disheartened and he would not speak so much between himself and his Creator for some days. Afterwards he would be conscious of himself and would be embarrassed of himself that he suspected His attributes/conduct blessed He, because in reality certainly Hashem Yisburach is gracious and merciful etc. and certainly He desires to draw him close etc. and he returned and strengthened his resolve, and he began again to plead and speak before Hashem Yisburach as mentioned above. And so it was many times.
13. And he would do all types of simple devotions of service of Hashem without any smarts ("chuchmos") and all with great secrecy/modesty. And immediately upon going outside he would purposely do all types of childish things, all types of silliness and prancing and other similar things (which are called in Yiddish far shaitkait) until it was not possible for it to occur to anyone that he desired the service of Hashem.
And in the beginning in his childhood he was accustomed to taking some large coins and he would change them for small ones, and he would enter the synagogue secretly through the window and so forth and he took with him the book "Shaaray (gates of) Tzion (Zion)," and he would say the lishaim (for the sake of) yichud (unification) for doing a mitzva (a declaration stating one's intent in doing the deed is for the sake Heaven to unify the Divine Names with proper fulfillment of the deed with love and fear and in the name of all of Israel), and he took one small coin and threw it into the "matan (given) bisaiser (in secrecy) (i.e. a charity box designated as such)." And afterwards he made himself as if he was abstracted from it, and afterwards he returned and said the aforementioned lishaim yichud and returned and threw one penny into the "matan bisaiser." And so he returned and did many times until he threw all the pennies into the "matan bisaiser," and upon every single penny he said the aforementioned lishaim yichud. And his intention was in order to do many mitzvos, because his devotion was with absolute simplicity without any smarts ("chuchmos")  whatsoever.
And similarly he would do and serve Hashem Yisburach with all types of absolutely simple devotions without any smarts (-chuchmos) whatsoever, even though in reality he was enormously wise with very extreme superlative wisdom even in his childhood and in his youth as was widely known to all who knew him, even still he did not use any smarts whatsoever in the service of Hashem and was just accustomed to doing all the simple devotions of the world. That is, studying a lot of Torah, good deeds, and abundant prayers and supplications, and very abundant hisbodidus, to speak and express his words before Him blessed He as mentioned above, and so forth. And this was his essential phenomenally great wisdom, because from his utter superlative wisdom he merited immediately to this wisdom that no wisdom whatsoever is necessary for the service of Hashem. Because this is the fundamental greatest wisdom of all (as is explained in our words many times), not to be smart at all in the service of Hashem, just (to conduct) with unfeigned wholeheartedness and simplicity without any smarts (-chuchmos) whatsoever.

How to prevent tornadoes, hurricanes, and all storm winds according to Rabbi Nachman of Breslov

HH
In Likutay Moharan, Torah-teaching 17:5 Rabbainu revealed an amazing solution how to prevent all storm winds!
Rabbainu revealed that giving charity still, settles, and calms the winds and atmosphere. The more charity given to the more souls the stronger calming effect on the ambience.
See there at length for the details.

Worried about Sandy, Kathy, or anything of their likes - give and promote charity!

Nanach on the Torah - Parshas VaYairuh - This weeks Torah Portion - References to all the original teachings of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov and his students

Torah Portion of Va-yairu – פרשת וירא – And (Hashem) appeared (to Abraham)

And Hashem appeared to him (-Abraham) in Ailoanay (-plains of) Mamray and he was sitting at the entrance of the tent in the heat of the day.

Whoever has mercy on himself, even when the evil realm overwhelms him and seeks to cast him away, he will not relent and will continue to situate himself at the entrance of holiness until he is given to enter

Likutay Halachos, Laws of Eeshoos (matrimony) 4:19

And I will take a loaf of bread and feast your hearts.

Father Abraham gave them to eat in order that the angels should see what a person contends with in this world, and thus they will not have an opening to litigate against him receiving the Torah

Likutay Halachos, Laws of Breaking Bread 5:49

Because I know him because he commands his sons etc. to do charity and justice.

This verse is adjacent to the matter of Sodom, because the power to nullify edicts with prayer is by virtue of charity and justice

Likutay Halachos, Laws of Gifts 5:29

And Avrohom arose early in the morning to the place where he stood there (in devoted prayer before) the countenance of Hashem.

That which Abraham established the morning prayer of Shacharis was a reformation for the whole world, because even before him they were already praying

Likutay Halachos, Laws of Mincha (afternoon prayer) 7:82

_____________

Abraham constituted the morning prayer of Shacharis, for the main glory of HY is from beseeching, even more than praising, because the beseeching publicize Hashem's Providence over creation changing nature according to what is requested from Him

Likutay Halachos, Laws of the Prayer of Mincha (afternoon) 6

Also I know that with the innocence of your heart you did this etc..

The real truth is only when a person is free of all bodily desires, otherwise one's truth is to know that he is far from the truth

This is what HY told Avimelech

Likutay Halachos, Laws of Interest 5:34

And Sara said laughter G-d has made for me.

The laughter with the birth of Isaac was from the enormous joy in all the world from his holy birthplace

This is the aspect of the great rejoicing at a wedding

Likutay Halachos, Laws of Shabbos 6:23

And Gd tested Abraham.

What was the challenge of the test if HY told him straight out what to do? Only, it was his not harboring wrongful suspicions pertaining His Measures and he did His Will without understanding, this was the main challenge of the test

Likutay Halachos, Laws of Gifts 5:47

Take now (/please) your son, your only child etc..

The main construct of the Akaida (test of binding Isaac) is the yearning and longing for the Will of HY

By virtue of their withstanding the test it is ingrained in the nature of our souls to be willing to die for the sanctification of Hashem

Likutay Halachos, Laws of Craftsmen 4:10

And he (Abraham) saw the place from afar.

Even when one draws close to HY it is necessary to know that he is still distant

Abraham saw the future salvation, but only from afar

So it is always in every generation, in general and in particular

Through this one can hold up no matter what transpires to him

Likutay Halachos, Laws of Sending Away from a Nest 5

And Abraham called the name of that place (in prayer that) Hashem <Yeereh> Will See (fit to choose it) etc..

Abraham saw the salvation, but only from afar so that he couldn't figure it out, he had just to believe and wait for it and not to act prematurely (doachaik <press, pressure> hashu'a <the hour – the time>)

The poor rich society of Parshas Mitzoara - lepers

HH
Every time he comes its fair to say 50 people confront him asking him for charity, after all he claims that he bought ... for tens of millions, but unfortunately he has nothing to give them, and that is not something he can deal with. So this time bringing a larger group than I've seen with him he made sure to procure the services of P. the chussid of the rabbi just caught by interpol, who arranged for the group to sit outside of the camp, and he stood guard like in the story of the Prayer Leader that the ones who worshipped wealth had guards.

Gaichazi who had leprosy for asking money from Naaman, and later when he discovered that Aram who was seiging Israel had deserted leaving all their wealth and provisions, eventually stopped his own private pillage and alerted the nation.

Maybe there is yet a chance for these privileged elite, and may they merit to come again, and generously give the few dollars to keep the paupers at bay, without having to resort to leprosy and security.

The main importance of charity is faith!

HH
Rabbainu Na Nach Nachma Nachman MeUman reveals an amazing novelty which after consideration one will realize is really the simple truth. In Likutay Moharan, torah 31, Rabbi Nachman writes that the main importance of charity is faith. This is seemingly a very odd statement, for if anything one would be inclined to base the importance of charity on the kindness put into it or that it achieves - as the Talmud says: Charity only pays (-probably referring to reward in this world) according to the gemilas chessed in it, so where does faith come into this?

Now, true, there are always powerful criminals that cultivate certain charities, and certainly there is great injustice in that - for people to have dependency and sustenance from such ill gotten provision, however that seems to be a radical element, and not something to scale the merit of all charity. Yet here we can already see that charity can produce a lack of faith, at least by the recipients, and in truth, every recipient may be faced with challenges of faith, seeing how they are being provided for by other people.

The Talmud says that if a person has 'daas' (realization of knowledge) he lacks nothing, and if he lacks 'daas' than he has nothing. Basically a person's real wealth is relative to his daas. The Talmud also revealed that a person who gives charity is blessed with 6 blessings, whereas appeasing the pauper earns 11 blessings. Appeasing brings daas, it is real giving. Rabbi Nachman says more, that these blessings are not simply rewards, rather a person who approaches to give charity opens up these great channels of blessings (in the same way our Sages ob"m said that one who prays for someone else is answered first, and Besh't explained etc.), and as he himself is blessed he blesses the pauper with his charity and appeasement. In many places Rabbi Nachman elucidates that the root of daas is faith, as e.g. Rabbainu taught that one must constantly concretize one's faith establishing it for himself as actual knowledge, and attain even higher faith in what is beyond his daas. And in this teaching too, Likutay Moharan 31, Rabbainu lays down that the root of all the blessings is faith, that is why the perfection of charity is only on Shabbos, see there. So in effect when one comes to give charity, he reaches up to the source of all blessing - faith (-even at a simple level - a person before parting with his money is forced to strengthen his faith that he will not lose by this, and if the person is in tune with the reality of Hashem, obviously he is reading this and will have these intentions B"H), and opens up channels of blessing -- daas, and bestows from this on the poor person in front of him. Ultimately the poor person has free choice to believe as he will, but the higher and holier the charity is the more the faith is apparent - even as it is apparent that the world has a creator and didn't just appear - and thus it is quite clear, that the main importance of charity is the faith - that is where it begins, from which comes the blessing, donation, the daas, and ultimately that's what we are hoping to achieve to fill the world with faith.

Win the Lottery, not Nanach

HH

The story is told that the wife of R' Yisroel Salanter bought a lottery ticket, when he heard of this he was very agitated and immediately wrote up a contract disowning himself of his wife's possessions. He said what if she should win all that money, how would I be able to sleep when there are people hungry in the streets and I am sitting on money that could feed them.

The story seems a bit strange, because wouldn't he rather be able to help as many people as possible. Probably RYS realized that although feeding these people is a high priority, it would not be the ultimate solution, and definitely not in areas further away. So since he was involved in working on his system to really bring rectification to the world, and having to tend to feeding people would detract him from this, he shied far away from such responsibility.

So the other day my friend bought a lottery ticket, and I told him straight up 100% he wasn’t going to win, and it was foolish of him even to think otherwise. For if a Nanach such as himself who has only one thing on his mind day and night to spread Na Nach Nachma Nachman MeUman, if he would come into a few million dollars that would already finance so much hafatza that would be forsure a huge step, if not the final step, to the ultimate redemption. And since it is highly doubtful that this is the way HY is going to bring the redemption, through this lottery ticket, there's just no way it's the winning ticket. It seemed to me that he agreed completely.

Charity for its own sake

HH

Although B"H I'm almost never asking for charity, unless it is for a worthy cause other than myself, people are coming over now and again to give me some, B"H. What I really like - and this happens now and again -- when I am outside on a public wifi surfing the net and attending to my various internet concerns, and have people give me charity then... for then it is more clear that I am not being given the charity for any learning I might have, or any righteousness... just for wearing a Nanach beanie....

Healing

HH

a friend of mine just told me - don't get haughty, but my wife was very sick so I put on your disk and by the next day she was healed. So I told him that this probably had more to do with him than with me, because he bailed me out, I had fallen short of the amount needed to pay for the disc and he paid for it -- about a third of the whole cost - so by playing the disc for his wife he was arousing the great merit of charity....

Na Nach Nachma Nachman MeUman!

ב"ה

Charity brings security!

HH

A friend of mine here in Tiberias went away for Shabbos, before leaving he brought me a few snacks for Shabbos, junk food that I do not usually indulge in, however I was happy to accept them, and put off the consideration of whether or not I was going to eat them or pass them on to the many Nanach guests that were coming.
Friday night -- in middle of the night, maybe even the wee early hours of the morning, I was hit with some cravings, and I popped out the snacks, in honor of the holy Shabbos, of course.

When my friend returned home after Shabbos, he discovered that a thief had broken in to his home, and had taken some trifles from his wife's jewelry, his assessment is that the thief panicked and made a quick exit. The thief took a few inexpensive trifles and overlooked a gold bracelet sitting right there, and $200 in a little container also right there. So chances are that my little party interfered with his heist.

So one of the many morals of the story is that you should always give your friends junk food in honor of the Shabbos.
