It's been a very long time since I've read Sefer Chezyoanoas - Book of Dreams (and other metaphysical encounters), but it left me with a lasting impression of how he recorded objectively many times messages he received from on high that he must chastise the masses and bring them to repentance, and even how he was punished severely for not doing so, and yet he doesn't seem to take heed and do what was demanded of him!
So it occurred to me, that since RCV knew that the people would not listen to him, as he was told explicitly from one spirit, he therefore held to the dictum of not chastising someone for better that they continue to transgress unwittingly than for them to continue sinning willfully GF. So even though he knew that by rebuking them he himself would be saved from punishment and perhaps even attain higher levels, he chose to be the scapegoat for the masses, and not give an opening for the Divine wrath to be fully accounting on them. And thus he watched his daughter perish and die and other severe retributions all I'm self sacrifice for the errant Jewish masses.
