 Letter 76

 

BH. 8 Elul, [5]723 (Wednesday – August 28, 1963).

 

In honor of the president of Israel, my eye and heart, Mr. S. Z. Shazar – who relates to the True Tzaddik with veneration and tremendous immeasurable love to no end; and he strains himself with all his strength to multiply, make famous, and promulgate in all the worlds the Name of the True Tzaddik, which through Him the redemption will come for us and for all the Jewish people, and for the whole entire world. [May you merit to a] good inscription and signing for good and long life, and for boundless peace.

 

He [third person] must constantly remember the magnitude of the virtue of his refined soul which is lofty in its highest root, to have mercy on it – to adorn it, to beautify it, and to burnish it with the uppermost and awesome brilliances of the Tzaddik; to rescue it from the trappers’ snare of the despoiler and the Chambers of Exchanges which exceedingly substitutes and vitiates; and to act in the manner of the holy royalty of the true Son of the King that was exchanged (See Sipurei Maasiyos, Story 11).

 

The holy days of Elul have already arrived – days of compassion and forgiveness; and one must now return and start anew – to yearn and long with strong desires to remain fixed within the holy Kibbutz [gathering] of the True Tzaddik on the holy Rosh Hashana, and he shouldn’t dissociate himself from them all the days of his life. For, as long as he is within the encompassment of the Kibbutz that the True Shepherd gathers – he has hope for eternity, even if he’ll go through that which he’ll go through, God forbid.

 

When a person wants to draw close to God, blessed He, and to return in repentance, it is necessary that thousands and myriads of immeasurable downfalls should pass over him; and he must be a mighty warrior to strengthen his heart each time in order to not desert his place as a result of any descent in the world, be it as it may. And this is the main thing and foundation in which everything is dependent – that one should never become dejected, [and that one should] constantly empower himself even if he is as he is, [and one should] believe with a complete faith that there is no descent whatsoever in the world, for one can find God, blessed He anywhere; and even when one falls to the netherworld abyss, God spare us, even so, he must constantly strengthen himself and not ever give up on himself – for there as well God, blessed He, is found – in the aspect of, “And if I make the depths my laying spot, here You are” (Psalms 139:8).

 

The Yetzer Hora [evil inclination] always awaits in ambush upon the person’s soul in order to defile him with sins, willful sins, and great defects; and one needs much mercy and great overpowering in order to save his soul from the clutches of hell – until he will return his soul to its place and tranquility.

 

The primary compassion that one needs to have on the Jewish people is to bring into them the light of the Tzaddik, and to thereby extract them from sins, and to draw them close to God, blessed He.

לכבוד נשיא ישראל, עיני וליבי, מר ש.ז.שזר, המתייחס אל הצדיק האמת בהערצה ובאהבה עצומה בלי קץ וסוף, ומתאמץ בכל כוחו להרבות לפרסם ולהודיע בכל העולמות את שם הצדיק האמת שעל ידו תבוא הגאולה לנו ולכל ישראל ולכל העולם כולו. כתיבה וחתימה טובה לחיים טובים ארוכים ולשלום אין קץ.

צריך לזכור תמיד גודל מעלת נפשו העדינה וגבוה בשורשה העליון, לרחם עליה לקשטה וליפותה ולצחצחה בצחצחות העליונות הנוראות של הצדיק, להצילה מפח יוקשים של העושק והיכלי התמורות שמחליפים ומקלקלים מאד ולהתנהג בנימוס המלוכה דקדושה של בן המלך האמת שנחלף.

כבר הגיע ימי אלול הקדושים, ימי הרחמים והסליחות, וצריך עתה לחזור ולהתחיל מחדש להתגעגע ולכסוף ברצונות חזקים לישאר קבוע בראש השנה הקדוש בתוך הקיבוץ הקדוש של הצדיק האמת, ולא יפריד עצמו מהם כל ימי חייו. כי כל זמן שהוא בתוך כלל הקיבוץ שמקבץ הרועה האמיתי יש לו תקוה לעולם אפילו אם יעבור מה שיעבור חס ושלום.

כשאדם רוצה להתקרב להשם יתברך ולשוב בתשובה, צריך שיעברו עליו אלפים ורבבות ירידות בלי שיעור, וצריך שיהיה גיבור חזק לחזק לבבו בכל פעם לבלי להניח את מקומו משום ירידה שבעולם, יהיה איך שיהיה וזהו העיקר והיסוד שהכל תלוי בו, לבלי ליפול בדעתו לעולם, ולחזק את עצמו תמיד אף אם הוא כמו שהוא, להאמין באמונה שלמה שאין שום ירידה בעולם, כי בכל מקום יכולים למצוא את השם יתברך, ואפילו כשנופל לשאול תחתיות רחמנא ליצלן אף על פי כן צריך לחזק את עצמו תמיד ולבלי לייאש את עצמו לעולם כי גם שם ה' יתברך נמצא בבחינת "ואציעה שאול הנך".

היצר הרע אורב על נפש האדם תמיד לטמא אותו בעוונות ופשעים ופגמים גדולים, וצריך רחמים רבים והתגברות גדול למלט נפשו מיד שאול עד שישוב נפשו למקומה ולמנוחתה.

עיקר הרחמנות שצריכים לרחם על ישראל הוא להכניס בהם אור הצדיק ולהוציאם על ידי זה מעוונות ולקרבם לה' יתברך.

המעתיק המתפלל תמיד על שלומו והצלחתו, ומאחל לו ולביתו שנה טובה ומתוקה, שנת גאולה וישועה.
