Letter 97
Baruch Hashem. The night preceding
the 24th day of Iyar, [5]725 (Wed. – May 26, 1965).
In honor of the king of the Jewish
people, the crown of my head, Mr. S. Z. Shazar – who is beloved in the eyes of
God as a woman to her husband because of the magnitude [and] forcefulness of his desire, [in] that he desires with all his heart for
[lit. to] the Leader, the True Sage who humbles
the haughty and raises the lowly, and He gathers in and accepts all the lost
and rejected ones and returns them to God and His Torah, so that all will recognize
and know God, and they will give God the Crown of Sovereignty.
May God be a shield for you – for the
sake of the Tzaddik who draws upon you great loving-kindness and compassion,
completely new, in order to lengthen your days and years without any lack.
Know my brother and greatly believe
that, at the time of the beginning of your existence in your mother’s womb, it
was decreed on you from the Creator that you should be king over the Jewish
people – on condition that, with the propitiousness of your expansive and straight
intellect, and with you eloquent and glorious tongue you shall teach the nation
the pathway of the awesome truth which God has made appear opposite your eyes
in a miraculous and wondrous way for what is now seven years.
And open the eyes and hearts of the
Jewish people so that all should see and recognize the true truth which is
sequestered, hidden, and concealed from the eyes of everyone – which therein
depends our redemption and the redemption of our souls and the rectification of
the whole world, in completeness.
The primary honor and greatness of
the kingdom is specifically through humility; and however much more humility
the king possesses, his kingdom spreads out more. For so is the way of a
kingdom every time, that one must precede his honor and greatness with
humility. Just like every day at the time a person arises from his bed, which
then he is still in smallness in that he is clothed in simple clothing, and also
his face isn’t yet bright and clear prior to the washing; and afterwards he beautifies
himself and dresses in honorable attire, and he expands in his greatness as is
the way of a king!
Blessed is the One who resurrects
the dead with great compassion. I will relate to you in brief the amazing
miracle that God performed with me in His great loving-kindness. Two weeks ago,
my wife became ill with a big sickness that is unfathomable, and her sickness
grew stronger from day to day. And the top [lit. big] doctor, Professor Elyakim said that her situation is very severe,
and she is in need of a hospital immediately without delay; and we took her to Hadassah
Hospital and the doctors said to give up because there is no hope for her life,
for she was [in her] death-throes and without any feeling or senses. We informed all the
children and relatives that they should come and they should be [present] at her bedside, and we all wept and
our eyes flowed with boiling tears without respite. However, notwithstanding, I
overcame with everything – with a strong mind, with faith and trust in God that
even if a sharp sword is placed on a person’s neck, he shouldn’t prevent
himself from [praying for] mercy (Brachos 10a); and even now in such a situation God, blessed He, is capable of
enlivening and healing her. [So] I strengthened myself very much in prayer and repentance at her
bedside almost the entire day of Friday, and on the night of the holy Shabbos
she awakened and opened her eyes a little; and from then on there began some
change for the better, and slowly, slowly her situation slightly improved– but she
was still in great danger until the past Thursday. And now her situation is getting
better from day to day, and the doctors are saying: A great miracle took place
here – above the parameters of nature.
From the depths of my heart I give
thanks and exaltation to the God of thanksgiving, the faithful healer, who has
returned her soul to her in His great compassion, and He has astonishingly
performed loving-kindness with me and He gave me a present from the storehouse
of free presents with great miracles and wonders in the merit of the holy
Rabbeinu z”l [His memory should be for blessing]. And in the merit of your prayers and your joining in with my pain
with all your heart and soul – which I thoroughly felt this in my heart. So too,
I am standing [on the] watch and praying constantly about your wellbeing and the wellbeing
of your precious wife and your noble sister so that He should heal you [all] in completeness, in body and soul;
and He should give you [all]
long life, good life in the merit of Rabbeinu [the] gushing stream zy”a [His merit
should shield us].

מכתב צז
ב"ה. אור ליום כ"ד אייר תשכ"ה
לכבוד מלך ישראל,
עטרת ראשי, מר ש.ז.שזר, החביב בעיני ה' כאישה לבעלה, בגלל גודל תוקף תאותו, שמתאוה
בכל ליבו אל המנהיג החכם האמת, המשפיל גאים ומגביה שפלים, ומאסף ומקבל כל האובדים
והנדחים ומחזירם לה' ותורתו, שכולם יכירו וידעו את ה' ויתנו לה' כתר מלוכה.
יהי ה' מגן בעדך,
בגין הצדיק, שממשיך עליך חסדים ורחמים גדולים, חדשים לגמרי, להאריך ימיך ושנותיך
בלי שום מחסור.
דע, אחי, והאמין
מאד, כי בעת התחלת הויתך בבטן אימך, נגזר עליך מאת הבורא שתהיה מלך על ישראל,
בתנאי שבסגולת שכלך הרחב והישר ולשונך הצח והמפואר תלמד העם דרך האמת הנורא,
שהופיע ה' לנגד עיניך בדרך נס ופלא זה שבע שנים.
ותפתח עיניהם
וליבם של ישראל, שכולם יראו ויכירו האמת האמיתי הגנוז וצפון ונעלם מעין כל, אשר בו
תלוי גאולתנו ופדות נפשנו ותיקון כל העולם בשלמות.
עיקר כבוד וגדולת
המלכות הוא על ידי ענוה דייקא, וכל מה שיש להמלך ענוה ביותר, מתפשט מלכותו ביותר,
כי כן דרך המלכות בכל פעם, שצריך שיקדים ענוה לכבודו וגדולתו. כמו שבכל יום בשעה
שקם ממיטתו, שאזי עדיין הוא בקטנות, שמלובש במלבושים פשוטים, וגם פניו אינו בצחות
וזכות עדין קודם הרחיצה, ואחר כך מיפה עצמו ומתלבש בבגדי כבוד, ומתפשט בגדולתו
כדרך המלך!
ברוך מחיה מתים
ברחמים רבים. אספר לך בקיצור הנס הנפלא שעשה ה' עמדי בחסדו הגדול, לפני שבועיים
חלתה אשתי חולי גדול לא ישוער, ומחלתה גברה מאד מיום ליום. והרופא הגדול, פרופסור
אליקים, אמר שמצבה קשה מאד והיא זקוקה לבית חולים תכף ומיד. ולקחנו אותה לבית
חולים הדסה. והרופאים אמרו נואש, כי אין שום תקוה לחייה, כי היתה גוססת, בלי שום
הרגש וחושים כלל. והודענו לכל הילדים והקרובים, שיבואו ויהיו על יד מיטתה, וכולנו
בכינו וזלגו עינינו דמעות רותחות בלי הפוגות. אולם בכל זאת, אנכי התגברתי בכל,
במחשבה חזקה, באמונה ובטחון בה', שאפילו חרב חדה מונחת על צוארו של אדם אל ימנע
עצמו מן הרחמים, ואפילו עכשיו במצב כזה יכול השם יתברך להחיותה ולרפאותה. והתחזקתי
מאד בתפילה ותשובה על יד מיטתה כמעט כל יום שישי. ובליל שבת קודש נתעוררה ופתחה
עיניה קצת, ומאז התחיל איזה שינוי לטובה, ולאט לאט השתפר מצבה קצת, אך עדין היתה
בסכנה גדולה, עד יום חמישי העבר. ועכשיו מצבה הולך וטוב מיום אל יום, והרופאים
אומרים: נס גדול היה כאן, למעלה מגדר הטבע.
מעמקי לבבי אני
נותן תודה והלל לאל ההודאות רופא נאמן ורחמן שהחזיר לה נשמתה ברחמיו הגדולים.
והפליא חסדו עמדי ונתן לי מתנה מאוצר מתנת חנם בנסים ונפלאות גדולות בזכות רבינו
הקדוש ז"ל. ובזכות תפילתך והשתתפותך בצערי בכל לבך ונפשך. שהרגשתי זאת היטב
בליבי. כן גם אני עומד על המשמר ומתפלל תמיד על שלומך ושלום רעייתך היקרה ואחותך
האצילה שירפא אתכם בשלימות בגוף ונפש ויתן לכם חיים ארוכים חיים טובים בזכות רבינו
