Letter 117

Baruch Hashem, 7 Nissan, [5]729 (Wednesday – March 26, 1969).

In honor of the president of Israel, my heart and flesh, Mr. Z. Shazar – who has found favor in the eyes of all the Jewish people, and everyone is priding and blessing themselves in him, and praising him with great praise about him meriting to drink the waters of the wisdom of the Tzaddik, the King of the Jewish people and their Redeemer for all generations. Fortunate are you in that you merited to this – for because of this matter, God performed with us great and awesome miracles and wonders in the Six-Day War until this day, [from] which all the nations are shocked and amazed, and they are saying, “It is the finger of God” (Exodus 8:15). Fortunate are you in that through you the Name of God and the Name of the Jewish People have grown and become esteemed throughout the whole world. Long life, good, blissful, and fresh life for you and your household in the merit of the Gushing Stream, the Source of Wisdom.

The immenseness of our great and powerful love is a big wonder and an awesome novelty. For it is only truth alone, without any mixture whatsoever. Such true love like this – there is nothing like it in the world. My eyes and heart are by you constantly, day and night, longing and yearning with expiration of the soul [for] your good and salvation in body and soul.

Now, my brother, my cherished one, take pleasure and rejoice in the salvation of God and be strong and courageous, and trust in God that He will never forsake you or His Jewish nation ever. And in all your matters, His loving-kindness shall be with you constantly to support, sustain, and encourage; and He shall be of your assistance so that you merit to reveal and make known to all the Jewish people, that now in this impoverished generation there exists a new light, a novelty of novelties, the wonder of all the wonders of the Creator, blessed He – which is all of our lifeforce, hope, and consolation; He is our Redeemer and Extractor from darkness to light. And may it be fulfilled in you and in all the Jewish people, “They shall seek the Lord, their God” (Hosea 4:5) and the True Tzaddik and Leader who is alive and everlasting: Mohara”n [Our Teacher and Master, Harav, Reb Nachman] of Breslov z”l, who shines the light of God to the whole world. Yehuda and Jerusalem shall be saved in your days, and the Jewish people shall dwell securely upon its land, [the] holy land with quietness and tranquility, with the holiness of the Torah and [Divine] Commandments.

My brother, my cherished one, my heart and soul, have mercy on yourself and on the Jewish nation and instill in your good and pleasant heart the blissfulness of the awesome Teachings and Prayers, the Stories and the Conversations – your mind and thoughts shouldn’t budge from them; and enliven your soul in them all the days of your life for the length of days. Give thanks and exaltation to God who has endowed you with such nice and blissful vessels like these: a straight intellect, a pleasant heart, a sweet heart, a sweet tongue – eloquent and pleasant [Yiddish: Ah zis hartz, ah zis lashon]. Honor God with all this – to engage with them every day, and then it’ll be good for you for eternity in this [world] and the upcoming [world].

לכבוד נשיא ישראל לבי ובשרי מר ז" שזר אשר מצא חן בעיני כל ישראל וכולם מתכבדים ומתברכים בו ומשבחין אותו בשבחים גדולים על אשר זכה לשתות מימי החכמה של הצדיק מלך ישראל וגואלם לדור דור אשריך שזכית לכך כי בגלל הדבר הזה עשה ה" עמנו נסים ונפלאות גדולות ונוראות במלחמת ששת הימים עד היום הזה אשר כל העמים תמהים ומתפלאים ואומרים אצבע אלקים הוא. אשריך שעל ידך נתגדל ונתיקר שם ה" ושם ישראל בכל העולם. חיים ארוכים חיים טובים נעימים ורעננים לך ולביתך בזכות הנחל נובע מקור חכמה

עוצם אהבתינו הגדולה והחזקה הוא פלא גדול וחידוש נורא. כי היא רק אמת לבד בלי שום תערובות כלל. אהבת אמת כזה אין כמוה בעולם עיני ולבי אצלך תמיד יום ולילה כוסף ומשתוקק בכלות הנפש טובתך וישועתך בגוף ובנפש.

עתה אחי חביבי תתענג ותשיש בישועת ה" וחזק ואמץ ובטח בה" כי לא יעזוב אותך ואת עמו ישראל לעולם. ובכל עניניך יהי' חסדו עמך תמיד לתומכך ולסעדך ולאמצך ויהי' בעזרך שתזכה לגלות ולהודיע לכל ישראל שנמצא עכשיו בדור העני הזה אור חדש חידוש שבחידוש פלא שבכל הפלאות של הבורא י"ת שהוא כל חיותינו ותקותינו ונחמתינו הוא גואלינו ויוציאנו מאפילה לאורה. ויקוים בך ובכל ישראל ובקשו את ה" אלהיהם ואת הצדיק המנהיג האמת החי וקים מוהר"ן מברסלב ז"ל המאיר אור ה" לכל העולם. בימיך תוושע יהודא וירושלם וישראל ישכון בטח על אדמתו אדמת קודש בשקט ושאנן בקדושת התורה ומצות.

אחי חביבי לבי ונשמתי חוסה עליך ועל עם ישראל ותכניס בלבך הטוב והנעים נעימת התורות והתפלות והמעשיות והשיחות הנוראות אל יזוז דעתך ומחשבתך מהם ותחי' את נפשך בהם כל ימי חייך לאורך ימים. תן תודה והלל לה" אשר חננך בכלים נאים ונעימים כאלה. שכל ישר לב נעים א זיס הרץ אזיס לשון צח ונעים {לב מתוק ולשון מתוק צח ונעים}, תכבד לה" בכל זה לעסוק בהם בכל יום ואז טוב לך לנצח בזה ובבא.

עבדך ואוהבך הנאמן מברכך בחג כשר ושמח מצפה לראותך מהרה באהבה ובשמחה רבה.....
