Likutey Moharan 149
“At midnight I rise to thank You for Your righteous judgments”
“At midnight I rise to thank You for Your righteous judgments” [Psalms 119:62]. Midnight is a propitious time, like a redemption, for it is the time of the sweetening of judgments [Petach Eliyahu, Tikunei Zohar]. And this is the meaning of “for Your righteous judgments”—that righteousness overpowers judgment.
The repair for this—“At midnight I rise”. The essential halachic midnight is always after six hours from the beginning of the night—whether in summer or winter. From that point, the period of midnight begins and lasts until the end of the second watch, which is two hours [Zohar].
And in the morning, it is good to gaze at the heavens, and through this, knowledge (da’at) is drawn down [see Zohar HaKadosh].
