180 - On the Matter of the Segula (-Propitious Remedy) of the Redemption
Money represents an aspect of judgments, as it is written: "And all that stand on their feet" – this refers to a person's money, which enables him to stand on his feet (Pesachim 119a). Thus, money embodies the aspect of feet. This corresponds to (Isaiah 41:2): "Righteousness shall call him to his feet," where righteousness signifies the holy kingship (Petach Eliyahu). Kingship embodies judgments, for "the law of the kingship is law" (Gittin 10b). Therefore, money is inherently an aspect of judgments.
One must sweeten these judgments at their root, which resides in Binah (-Understanding), as it is written (Proverbs 8:14): "I, Binah, have strength" (here, "strength" alludes to judgments rooted in Binah). Therefore, by placing the hands on the money, the judgments are sweetened. In Binah, there are three hands: the great hand, the strong hand, and their encompassing aspect – the exalted hand. Thus, when money – symbolizing judgments – comes under the influence of these hands, which represent the three hands in Binah, the judgments are sweetened at their source, for Binah is that root containing these three hands.
Furthermore, one must sweeten the judgment in this world of Asiyah (-Action) through the three hands present in each of the three higher worlds: Atzilut (-Emanation), Beriah (-Creation), and Yetzirah (-Formation). Sweetening the judgment of Asiyah via the three hands in Yetzirah involves the 42-letter Name: ABG etc., since 42 numerically equals three times yad (-hand, value 14; 3×14=42). In Beriah, it is sweetened through the Names AQYQ and YQV, both also equaling 42 (three times yad), derived from the 42 letters of the Name MH (-45: in its simple form, filling, and filling of the filling – totaling 42 letters, equaling three times yad).
One must ensure not to be miserly, lest judgments remain with him. This requires exceptional wisdom to determine precisely how much to give, ensuring no judgments linger.
