Likutay Moharan - Torah-teaching 91

91

And his hands were faith until the sun came

[In the language of the friends]

And his hands were faith until the sun came (Exodus 17).

For there are several kinds of faith: there is faith that is only in the heart.
And the main thing a person needs is to have faith so much that it extends into all the limbs,
as it is brought in the writings of the Ari, that one needs to raise his hands at the time of washing opposite the head,
in order to receive the holiness.

It is found that one needs for this faith in the hands to believe that because he raises his hands opposite the head,
he receives the holiness.
For without faith it is nothing, as it is written (Psalms 119):
“All Your commandments are faith.”

And when he has such faith,
from the faith comes the intellect.
And all that he holds himself in faith
comes to more intellect.

For the thing that he needed initially to believe,
now when he comes to greater faith,
he understands the first thing with intellect.

And this is what is written:
“Moshe and his hands were faith,”
so great that it extended into all the limbs,
that even in his hands was the faith so great until the sun came—
that is, to the intellect of the thing.

And the sun is the aspect of wisdom,
as brought with us above in Torah 1.
