Likutay Moharan - Torah-teaching 158

Likutay Moharan 158

The Power of Humility in the Service of the Divine

Humility is the foundation of all spiritual service and the key to opening the gates of Divine favor. When a person humbles themselves before the Creator, recognizing their own limitations and nullifying their ego, they become fit to receive the influx of Divine grace.

The Torah teaches us: “Walk humbly with your God.” [Micah 6:8] This walking humbly is not merely external behavior but an internal state of heart, a deep awareness of one’s place before the Infinite.

Through humility, the soul sheds the garments of pride and conceit that obscure its connection to the Source of life. This clearing of obstacles allows the Divine light to enter freely, nurturing the soul’s growth and refinement.

Furthermore, humility cultivates peace and harmony in one’s relationships with others, reflecting the Divine attribute of compassion. It softens the heart and enables genuine love and kindness to flow outward.

Therefore, to truly serve God and advance in spiritual life, one must embrace humility as a constant companion— a shield against arrogance and a path to closeness with the Divine Presence.
