186 - What They Tell of Wonders from the Tzadikim
The wonders recounted about tzadikim in nearby lands arise because their people are upright and believe in the tzadikim. Faith in the tzadik's words reveals wonders, for a true tzadik is indeed filled with them. When one believes in the tzadik, focusing heart and eyes on every word as truth spoken with intent, then upon returning home, he carefully examines all that happens to him and retroactively understands the tzadik's hints in their prior conversation. Every event aligns with those hints – thus, wonders are created and revealed through this process.
This is similar to the prophets: prophecies were given in hints, not explicitly understood at the time as to what they alluded. Only upon fulfillment did they recognize retroactively that the prophet's words had come true, understanding the hints as intending that event. For example, Daniel hints at the end time of redemption, but now the matters are sealed, as written (Daniel 12:4): "Close the words and seal," for no one currently knows how the redemption time is hinted there. But in the future, if Hashem wills, when the events are fulfilled and the true end arrives with our Messiah, then they will know retroactively how Daniel's words hinted at the end time. This pattern appears in several prophets.
