Blossoms of the Spring - Letter 56: "Then, you will live a life; for without this, there isn’t any vitality whatsoever..."

 Letter 56

 

BH, 3^rd day of Chol HaMoed Pesach [5]721 (Tuesday – April 4, 1961), Tel-Aviv.

 

My precious one, Mr. Z. Shazar – who’s pure intellect of depth and common sense has been of assistance to him to reach his desired destination, to the point of truth – which sweetens the bitterness of the world, and enlivens and maintains all the worlds. Peace, life, and all the best.

 

His pleasant letter reached me today, together with the check amounting to one-hundred Israeli Liras. Much thanks, and shout-outs of charming grace from the walls of my heart. I received great satisfaction from this that I saw, that the love for the point of truth has found a nest in his mighty heart – which this is our portion from all our laboring, this is our hope, this is our consolation, this is our salvation for eternity. May God help you to strengthen yourself to think deep thoughts – to overcome and to bind yourself to the light of the Tzaddik. Immerse yourself very deeply (Yiddish: Arein toen zich gut tif) in the words of Rabbeinu Z”l – in the teachings, and the stories, and in the prayers etc. And put all the powers of your soul, and all the holy fire that is rooted in your Jewish heart – into all of our treasures; then, you will live a life (Yiddish: Azay vesti leben ah leben), for without this, there isn’t any vitality whatsoever. The whole world is full of hardships, and various forms of misadventures; and no person has with what to console himself – except with the bit of good he merited to snatch during these few bad days.

 

One must draw wisdom and great contemplation from the Tzaddik – until he merits to remain [standing] in his place continuously, all the days of his life, and [so that] he will never allow himself to be felled.

 

There are years of the childhood and youth, years of ascent, and years of descent – which they are the years of old age and caducity. And inevitably, throughout all the years of a person’s life, he will go through, many, many different periods of time: periods of good, periods of bad; at times he is in the aspect of ascent, and at times he is in the aspect of decline. And the Tzaddik who teaches the Jewish people Torah and Daas [realization of knowledge], He shines into each and every person so that he should be able to strengthen himself during all the times and periods he is undergoing – in a way that he will not fall, and he will not become distanced from God, blessed He, ever.

 

Now, in these final generations, when a person overcomes with a minor movement like a hair’s-breadth in order to return to God, blessed He – it is much more precious by God, blessed He, then the great services of the first generations.

יקירי מר ז.שזר, אשר זך שכלו הישר והעמוק היה לו לעזר להגיע למחוז חפצו, אל נקודת האמת, הממתיק מרירותא דעלמא ומחייה ומקיים כל העולמות, שלום וחיים וכל טוב.

היום הגיעני מכתבו הנעים, בצרוף צ'ק על סך מאה לירות ישראליות רוב תודות ותשואת חן חן מקירות ליבי. קיבלתי נחת רוח גדול מזה שראיתי שאהבת נקודת האמת מצאה קן בליבו הכביר אשר זה חלקינו מכל עמלינו, זה תקותינו, זה נחמתינו, זה ישועתינו לנצח, יעזרך ה' להתחזק לחשוב מחשבות עמוקות להתגבר ולהתקשר לאור הצדיק. אריין טאהן זיך גוט טיף {להכניס עצמך בעמקות היטב) בדברי רבינו ז"ל בהתורות, בהמעשיות, ובהתפילות וכו'. ותכניס כל כוחות נפשך וכל האש הקודש המושרש בליבך הישראלי, בכל האוצרות שלנו, אזי וועסטי לעבין א לעבין {אזי תראה חיים מה הם}, כי זולת זאת אין שום חיות כלל. כל העולם מלא יסורים והרפתקאות מהרפתקאות שונות ואין לשום אדם במה לנחם את עצמו כי אם במעט הטוב שזוכה לחטוף במעט הימים הרעים האלה.

צריכים להמשיך מהצדיק חכמה והתבוננות גדול עד שיזכה לישאר על עמדו תמיד כל ימי חייו, ולא יניח להפיל את עצמו לעולם.

יש ימי הילדות והבחרות, ימי עליה וימי עמידה, וימי ירידה, שהם ימי הזקנה והשיבה. ובהכרח שיעבור על כל אדם בכל ימי חייו הרבה הרבה מיני עיתים שונים, עיתים לטובה, עיתים לרעה, פעמים הוא בבחינת עליה ופעמים הוא בבחינת ירידה. והצדיק המלמד תורה ודעת לישראל, מאיר בכל אחד שיוכל להתחזק בכל הזמנים והעיתים העוברים עליו, באופן שלא יפול ולא יתרחק מהשם יתברך לעולם.

עתה בדורות האחרונים האלו, כשמתגבר האדם בתנועה קלה כחוט השערה לשוב להשם יתברך, הוא יקר אצל השם יתברך הרבה מעבודות גדולות של דורות הראשונים.
