100 – All of Them Reached Their Level Only Through Hitbodedut

It was told to me that he said, that from small to big, it is impossible to be a truly kosher person, except through hisbodidus [solitary devotion].

And he mentioned many renowned and authentic tzadikim, and said that all of them did not reach their level, except through hisbodidus.

And he also took—for example—a simple man, from the grandchildren of the Baal Shem Tov, of blessed memory, and said:

"Also this one expresses what he has to say before Hashem, blessed be He, with great weeping."

And he said that the descendants of the Baal Shem Tov are especially accustomed to this practice, as they come from the seed of King David, peace be upon him.

And David's entire occupation was this concern: that he would deeply break his heart before Hashem, blessed be He — which is the essence of the Book of Psalms [Sefer Tehillim] that he established, as explained elsewhere.
