Etymology of the word prayer

Prayer is in place of the sacrificial offerings as it says

ונשלמה פרים שפתינו

פרה בגמטריא נחמן מאומן (גם פרה עם הכולל בגמטריא מנין התורות שבספר ליקוטי מוהר"ן קמא)

we will fulfill with our lips the (role of the sacrificial) cow - "para"

That's why it is called pray - like para.
