The Classified Books of Breslov

There are a few Breslov manuscripts that are being held by private people who refuse to share them with the public. One example is a manuscript Saba Yisroel had which was written by one of Rabbainu's main disciples, Rabbi Naftoli, regarding this Saba said:

I remember eighty years ago, Rabbi Shlomo Wexler, he had such words to say about Rabbeinu, but it was not revealed, and there were many other letters that did not come to us, I saw, there were wellsprings, yes. In the time of Rabbi Shlomo Wexler, before the Second World War, they were in possession of  Rabbi Shmuel Horowitz, there were writings of Rabbi Natan, some of it was lost……

 I had a ‘Likutey Tefilot’* in the handwriting of Rabbi Natan, and I also had many writings that had the potential to create a great commotion throughout the world. There was one chassid, a kosher butcher in America, he lived more than sixty years ago, and was together with several other married Torah students and chassids from Poland, and he came to me and said that he wanted to see me. Alright, they travelled to see me in Meron, and asked me to give them writings that would inspire one in the service of G-d. And I, Israel Ber, thought: “A Breslov chassid asks me for writings giving inspiration in serving G-d, could I not give them to him?” So I gave him the writings and they did not return those writings to me. “I lent them to you, why did you not give them back in return?” 

 Those were in the handwriting of Rabbi Naftali, a friend of Rabbi Natan, it was like a ‘Chai Moharan’* written by Rabbi Naftali, but there were awesome secrets there that had never before been revealed in the world, and if the writings were existing today, we would be publishing them.

Everything that Rabbi Natan brought in ‘Chai Moharan’, they are secrets that it is possible to reveal to the world, but those writings contained secrets that are impossible to reveal, they were such great secrets that they could have shaken the whole world…. and they are gone! 

 They had an accident in their car, and the writings were with them. They were saved miraculously, but the writings disappeared…… 

 Also, I had writings in the handwriting of Rabbi Natan, writings describing the suffering of the Breslovers, the persecution they endured. I remember one story....

 Saba says disappeared, seemingly as a euphemism for stolen, because that we know, but perhaps some writings were actually lost.

Why do holy books go missing? This is a question the holy Magid of Terivitza posed to many of the tzadikim of his generation, challenging them to tell him where were all the holy compositions of our forefathers and early Sages, and none were able to give him an answer, until he asked Rabbainu. It was then that Rabbainu revealed to him the Torah-Teaching of Likutay Moharan volume 2:32. See all of this in The Life of Our Leader Rabbi Nachman - Chayay Moharan 607.

In this Torah Rabbainu revealed, that just as HY allows His name to be erased in order to bring peace between man and wife, in the matter of the Sota, so too He allows for holy works of Torah to disappear, to counter act - to disappear with them - works of heresy. Rabbainu explained that the heretics had a tremendous science and persuasive reasoning, and their books were a huge threat to mislead the world from the truth of HY. 

Today I heard about a book written in the sixtees (-sometime around when the Breslov manuscripts started being stolen or going missing?) that was classified by the CIA and only recently was declassified - but only about 20% of the book was released, the other 80% was "sanitized". The book draws many connections to scientific anomalies especially in the field of geology, ancient civilizations, and prehistoric stuff, to different idolatries and mythologies. People are wondering what in the world could be in the redacted pages. 

Rabbainu said that holy books are disappeared in order to disappear works of heresy. It could follow, that when holy books are held classified, this holds up works of heresy to be classified and withheld from the public.

It is fascinating to note how he inserted in the first Torah-teaching mention of the Kamaya - something that Saba would ultimately introduce into the world, and also he inserted a complete concept from the Ramchal, something not merited by almost any of the later tzadikim - to be mentioned and included in the holy teachings of Rabbainu (except of course for the Baal Shem Tov). HH Rabbi Nachman's birth already set the stage for the modern era, e.g. a mere few years after he was born in 1772, America declared independence. Many of his teachings speak more directly to the man of our present time and society than to the shtetel (small town) Jews who were his followers. E.g. Rabbi Nachman revealed that everyone has an aspect of monarchy even if it is only over his family, or on a subliminal paradigm, this teaching was readily understood by his followers, but it was somewhat theoretical being that they were so destitute they could barely have seen real manifestation of this principle. Today, even the less well off, can clearly see how they wield various privileges and amenities that would have been special even for a monarch of those times. With the changing times, also came changing attitudes, social climate, and personal truths, convictions, ideas, and prerogatives. Rabbi Nachman had to prepare the world for this transition, and he did so by revealing the highest and deepest teachings which are the root of everything that plays out in the world. Anyone that looks at a lesson from Rabbi Nachman will see reflections of what is going on that very moment in his own life. Yet, even still, Rabbi Nachman saw that his followers were not adjusting properly and sufficiently. He saw their struggles and how they grappled with forces far superior than them. Even his awesome teachings were not providing his followers with the necessary perspective and life knowledge that they needed so desperately in order to transcend the narrow confines of ideology that were trapping them and leaving them helpless to the wanton desires of the helpless. As a final last resort Rabbi Nachman found the solution, he would reveal timeless stories, stories that would recreate the perception of the workings of the world, the listener would be reborn into new consciousness and awareness, and would be impassioned to forever seek renewal and true vitality. These stories are called Stories of Ancient Years, corresponding to the Divine Countenance of Attik Yoamin (see book of Daniel), the countenance of the Ancient of Years, which subliminally transcends all of the ordinary chain of events manifested in the Divine Providence, a bridge to cognizance of what is utterly beyond. On the one hand, these legendary tales are completely unfathomable in their scope and import, they are allusions to the most deep and esoteric Divine secrets, and yet on the other hand, they are filled with practical morals and life lessons which any reader can easily glean and gain. To this day no one has merited to completely understand the root and intrinsic meaning of the stories in their rightful context, yet multitudes of people have gained phenomenal new insights through these stories, the stories literally open up gates to greater perspicacity and cognizance. The stories have captured the attention and fascination of even the most secular scholars, they have been translated into different languages, and they are studied in universities throughout the world. Rabbi Nachman said that even the minutest detail of the stories is extremely critical, and unfortunately most of the translations are fraught with the literary license an author has to set down his own perspective, which in this case is undoubtedly very damaging. This translation was done painstakingly to capture as best as possible the exact translation and nuance, even following the order of the original verbiage, and often favoring the original Yiddish in which Rabbi Nachman delivered the stories. In more recent times, one of Rabbi Nachman's followers, Rabbi Yisroel Dov Odesser, underwent a phenomenal course of events which themselves proved to be the mechanism of transition and development of Breslov, and are understood to be a clear aspect of Stories of Ancient Times, and thus some of his stories are fittingly included in this volume as well as are many other stories from Na Nach Nachma Nachman MeUman.

HH: The Book of The Traits – Saifehr Hameedoas - part 1 was authored by Rabbi Nachman when he was still a young child, Rabbi Nachman also called this holy book, The Aleph Beth Book because it alphabetically charts all the influences, nuances, and manifestations of human CHARACTER. Part 2 was authored much later and is infinitely more profound. Many of the imports are seemingly found in the Oral Torah, and different scholars have documented those that are explicit, and challenged themselves to find sources and hints in the Torah to those that are not. In this special edition, some of the notes and insights of the translator are published in Hebrew at the back of the book. Rabbi Nachman professed that he drew these teachings from their very loftiest root and are not simple quotations, even the order they are presented in, is intrinsic to the teachings, one can and should understand each entry in light of the neighboring teachings. Rabbi Nachman held this book in extremely high regard, stating that it was integral in making him a Jew. He urged his adherents to be proficient in this holy book. Rabbi Nachman always stressed and made abundantly clear that the main purpose and intent of the Torah is to apply it practically, one should pray to merit to realize and accomplish each and every teaching, and fully commit and devote himself to attaining the concepts taught. This book which presents the attributes of all the traits is thus a most excellent tool for a person to actually bring the Torah to fruition, to properly and effectively fix and perfect one's character and achieve that which the Holy Merciful One G-d desires from us. Breslov Hasidim would therefore take this book with them to study wherever they went, especially since it is very suited even for casual and intermittent study. As with everything that emanated from Rabbi Nachman, every word can be understood at the most simplest level and also on the deepest and most esoteric kaballistic comprehension. That is why this critical translation was done with painstaking examination of every word and letter to provide the most accurate, loyal, and authoritative translation to the reader, while offering the original Hebrew text so that the ultimate meaning can be attained. Rabbi Nachman revealed and taught the most simple and profound life lessons, yet the world had a hard time accepting these bare truths and thus he was considered very controversial. However in modern times, when everything is being exposed, and many fields and areas of human nature, development, and self improvement are being pursued ardently even in the secular community, people are becoming increasingly appreciative of the superlative status of Rabbi Nachman in his role as the master of the Jewish people and educator of all of mankind. People are discovering how Rabbi Nachman speaks to the modern man and woman like no other, directly addressing the very nature of their day to day trials and tribulations. In his teachings Rabbi Nachman is telling them, I've been there, and I'm there right now with you, and this is the way we have to come to grips with what is going on. This holy book should obviously be studied from cover to cover, however one should also consult it to look up a particular trait or matter at hand. Also, at any given time when seeking guidance or inspiration, one can open this holy book randomly and see the direction indicated by the teachings presented there. This is an extremely holy book, and just having it one's possession provides great benefit. Rabbi Nachmans said that every teaching of his, has a story (Life of Rabbi Nachman 94), and it has a melody, and a dance (ibid 340). If one were to only see and hear the Torah with its melody and dance, he would be completely nullified, his soul stretched to its utmost with longing, from the utter extremely wondrous and fabulous exquisite pleasure. May we merit to experience this with this holy book, in the merit of Na Nach Nachma Nachman MeUman.
