Visit the Kotel every thirty days via webcam

 HH if a person wasn't by the Western Wall for thirty days they need to do kreya. Can someone find me a halachic opinion that says it is sufficient to see live footage from a camera for the count of thirty?

It might have to work both ways - if it counts as a visit for the thirty days, then it should count to make an obligation to do kreya.

Unless we can say that it can count as an extension of a visit - nice lumdus....

In any event, some people unfortunately don't do kreya even if they haven't been at WW for years. So at the very least they should take upon themselves to check up on the Kotel webcam once a month.

May we all merit to be in Uman for Rosh Hashana.

Consider this further. Study the mitzva of nichum availim - consoling mourners. The consolation is provided by being there for them, to commiserate and share their pain. One definitely should not explain to the mourner how this is the best thing that ever happened to them, sing and dance for joy.

Similarly from this we can learn, that sometimes when confronting HY for help and salvation, we can acknowledge that perhaps some of the hardships we are undergoing maybe unalterable fates of life, and our prayer is not to change them but to be blessed with consolation and strength to surmount and excel despite them.

Still in the first week of shiva for a dear friend Nachman Shabsai, someone showed me an amazing thing: the Daf Yomi just learned 3 consecutive days about 3 huge tzadikim who were very fat (one of them was R. Elazer the son of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai!), check it out!

Galus (exile) mentality

HH it seems to me that the general feeling and attitude even amongst the most observant and pious is that the attainment of Ruach Hakodesh and the Temple is something of a special luxury, a special merit, almost the zenith or utopia that is at the very extreme limit of achievement.
That is extreme galus mentality which comes from thousands of years of disappointment and bearing of exile.
The fact of the matter is God roars - get a good image of that - great Divine roaring of tremendous anguish - even now everyday over the pitiful state of the Divine Presence and the lack of the Temple - both literally and figuratively in the correlation of the temple in each Jew which is their seat of holy intellect and Divine inspiration. Hashem is literally so to speak screaming in agony, this not just a simple lack of luxury and utopia.
Get a feeling for it, and take up the holy battle cry Na Nach Nachma Nachman Meuman!

Broken Vessels - Vessels for the Infinite

Shlomo Carlbach used to say that really poor people talk about coming into millions and millions of dollars and huge riches, they can just see it coming, whereas people that have some sort of livelihood have much more modest dreams and aspirations. When a person has a vessel it can only hold what it was designed for, but when a person is broken, he has vessels for the infinite.

In these days of mourning of the holy temple, of the holy tzaddikim, of our own lost holiness which we ourselves should be like the temple, if we can merit to be a little broken hearted, we can merit to vessels of the Infinite. B"H.

Tisha Bi-Av

Saying the Keenos (lamentations) on Tisha Bi-Av, remembering the murder of our brethren in Europe in the holocaust, these lamentations were added by contemporary rabbis and thoughts passed through my mind of how some of these rabbis were great opposers to the holy ways and followers of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov, which unquestionably sealed the terrible horrific fate of the holocaust. Even still this tragedy is extremely painful. These were precious Jewish souls that brought great warmth and holiness to the world, even if satan saw to it that they did not merit to have part in the ultimate holiness of Rabbainu.
