Letter 123
B.H. 27 Elul 730 (Monday, September 28, 1970)
In honor of the President of Israel, Mr. S.Z. Shazar who rules over the
hidden caches of knowledge and wisdom of the true chacham (-wise man, sage), gushing
stream, whom with his wisdom will conquer the entire world, and take them out
of darkness, and illuminate in their hearts the pleasantness (noam) of the
light of Hashem.
Kiseevuh vichaseemuh (-may you be inscribed and sealed) toavuh (-for
good) for good and long life.
The days of old age have sprung upon me with a strong hand, and my strength
and my mind are weak and languid, and the numerous illnesses and troubles upon
troubles which surround me, do not allow me to correspond befittingly in
writing. The (-our) bodies are distant, but the souls are extremely close,
because we are bound together in a singular unification, in the root of the
soul of the true leader, the gushing stream, who is the root of our Jewishness,
and all our life and hope, he redeems and saves us from all our enemies, for
every generation, for eternity. The fire of our love will not extinguish and
will not budge forever. Hashem knows what is hidden in my heart, that the fire
of my love for you will burn in my heart infinitely, and day and night all my
thoughts are over you, on your well being and your salvation in body and in
soul, and (I) pray constantly that Hashem illuminates in your heart the true
light, the new light, wonder of wonders, light of lights, which you desire, and
yearn, and crave to the secession of the soul that it should be revealed and publicized
in the entire world, because the rectification of the world (-tikun olam) is
contingent just upon this.
The wondrous love that Hashem made between us was born in Tiberius,
on the day of Tu (-15) of Shevat 717 (Thursday, January 17, 1957. Tu Bishvat is
the New Years of the Trees, it was also the birthday of Rabbi Nussun of Breslov).
From this love and holy unification a son was born to us for mazal tov (-good
fortune), and his name was called in Israel, Eebay Hanachal (-Blossoms of the Brook
(Song of Songs 6:11). Eebay is the initials of Yisroel Ber Odesser), named
after the “Nachal <stream> noavayah <gushing> mikor <(from the)
source of> chuchmuh <wisdom> (acronym: NaChMaN).” This precious son is
important and very dear in the eyes of G-d and man. From this son was begotten great
mitigations and salvations for Israel, as is partially known to you. How very
dear and desirous our son is by the greats of Torah and Heaven Fearing, who
praise and marvel it without measure, and everyone marvels over the matter of
our bond, and they say it is the finger of G-d (Exodus 8:15, 31:18). My cherished
brother, the desire of my heart, the splendor of my heart and soul. I cannot
budge my love, and yearning, and longing from you even for an hour, because
contingent upon this are supernal matters, extremely esoteric and awesome,
through which the Glory of Hashem and the name of the true tzadik are
aggrandized and sanctified in all the worlds.
Know, that every single word that left the mouth of Rabbainu o.b.m.
ascends to the infinite and descends to the great depth, to elevate and lift
the entire world to Hashem Yisburach, even the alienated who have been
completely distanced from the holiness of the Torah and have descended appallingly
(cf Lamentations 1:9) to the utmost descent which has no descent beneath it,
even upon them His mercies reach in this impoverished generation, to arouse
them and to awaken them, to support them and to assist them, to recuperate them
and to heal them, and to raise them to the apex of ascent. Fortunate are we
that we merited in these generations of ours, more than all the previous
generations that were from the time Hashem created His world. Fortunate are
your ears, and fortunate are your eyes, that you saw, and you heard, and you
understood all this, and more than this we will merit to know in the future,
when the truth will sprout from the ground (Psalms 85:12, and quoted
extensively in the holy books).
At this very time I received his letter and his heartfelt blessing
with the attached check of the sum of 100 Israeli Lira (-at a very rough estimate,
today in 2019, this would have the buying power of about 700 shekel), and I had
additional joy upon my happiness that there is from the writing of such holy
words like these which are so esoteric and hidden from the world. From the
depth of my heart I express many thanks and grateful acknowledgment to his venerable
honor, for the good and the kindness which he dealt me. May Hashem pay him for
his good deed and may his recompense be full (cf Ruth 2:12). May he carry
blessing from Hashem (Psalm 24:5). A good and happy/satisfiable year to him and
to his household, and they should merit to see the revelation of the truth in
the world, and they should have length of days and years on his kingship with
bountiful good.
The words of his servant and his faithful friend who serves him with
dedication with all of heart and soul.
